Julian Ricardo Oyola Thanks to Nina, great recommendation! I know barely a couple of artists that can perform all instruments and at the same time keep a broad mind and taste to deliver such an exquisite and eclectic album. Favorite track: Electrical Storm.

The voice said to go, looming Impossibly tall, toe up and I'm over it. And then was the gate locked tight So I fashioned a key, I twisted it and I'm inside Let me in, let me in. Cos I won't stop until I can see the look in your eye that's punishing me you know what i want, you know what I need You're more desperate than I am Let me in, let me in. Cos I won't stop until I can see the look in your eye that's punishing me I won't stop Let me in, let me in. Cos I won't stop until I can see the look in your eye that's punishing me

H8 U 02:52
Ready or not, here I come I'm bursting from the heart of the sun I'm bullets flying out of your gun And splintering right into your bones I'm found my way into your head I'm haunting you before I'm dead I'm flowing all around in your blood Your veins are coming out with a flood I don't need nothing from you I h8 everything you do I don't want nothing from you I h8 everything you do and you do and you do Everything little thing that you take And every little heart that you break On every flesh claim that you stake Cause every little part of you's fake I don't need nothing from you I h8 everything you do I don't want nothing from you I h8 everything you do and you do and you do I am the crack in your armour Caught like flies by a spider I am the wheels on your karma Real like the coke on your rider I am the crack in your mirror Caught like flies by a spider I am the wheels on your karma I am the crack in the I am the crack in the I don't need nothing from you I h8 everything you do I don't want nothing from you I h8 everything you do and you do and you do

We are the misfits Are you’re the wannabees We do exactly what we want While you are compromising constantly No subtext Or you might burn out We melted through your brain And now we’re watching all the dumb leak out We’re getting bored with all the hanging round We're stepping forward into the sinking sound We turned the next page In evolution And we don’t care if you come with us On our “rebel” revolution We don’t fit in With this insanity We're stuck together by a bond of Personality We’re getting bored with all the hanging round We're stepping forward into the sinking sound We're don't go for number one We only want to have some fun We don't want to join your clique, 'cos Ignorant is so LAST week We don't want to know who to shun We'd rather just be Whovian, no We don't want to crash your buzz Because stupid is as stupid does We’re getting bored with all the hanging round We're stepping forward into the sinking sound

Feelow 03:58
There's backstage passes here for everybody Free champagne glasses here for everybody Sweet honey kisses here for everybody 3 magic wishes here for everybody else And we talk and you go There's a free toy in it for everybody A beautiful girl or boy in it for everybody A bright sunshiny day in it for everybody There's a gilded cage in it for everybody else But not me typically and I miss this moment I feelow. And I feelow And my feet are kicking around everybody And my fingers clicking about everybody And my lips are bitching about everybody And my head is twitching around everybody else But not me typically and I missed this moment I feel my moment just passed me by into history And I feel forever is gone for good like I knew it would And I feel my moment just came and went like an accident Cos I feel I'm severed from the state I'm in And I want to scream And I feelow

There's sickness spreading over me As I manifest my destiny This electrical storm brewing up in my arms Lightning strike in the room as we sound the alarm Blow the circuitry out with a prayer or a shout Come to kill us again with the sword in the pen I fight until the sky turns black I hold the raging oceans back Through the golden dawn of history I soldier on to victory This electrical storm brewing up in my arms Lightning strike in the room as we sound the alarm Blow the circuitry out with a prayer or a shout Come to kill us again with the sword in the pen I dream you love Wherever you go whatever you do I'll be with you

Suicide Girl 04:42
I met her down in old Soho Where the stakes get high When the lights get low She said “Pretend that we’re in love And I’ll show you exactly What I’m made of” And she did She wrapped her legs around my hips Dissolved in kisses On my lips Made our bodies melt and move As the music danced us Through the roof My little suicide girl, My little phantom lover The last time that I saw my girl She turned her back on this twilight world Our story brazen on her skin A kaleidoscope in poisoned ink My little suicide girl, My little phantom lover Stay With Me

Poison 03:43
Before we slip into the past I want to make this moment last As if the memory’s fading fast I was deceived for far too long That we would live inside a song But all the harmonies were wrong Your poison leaves stains on the people you use Your poison in my veins, no it’s never gonna let me go It’s never gonna let me, never gonna let me go You could have anything you want The thing to govern is the heart Let’s take it right back to the start You make up a more convincing lie And I’ll believe you by and by And find the answers in the sky Your poison remains when the sting is removed Your poison in my veins, no it’s never gonna let me go It’s never gonna let me, never gonna let me go He’ll drain the life out of you Gonna stay with me forever.

Aubade 04:53
It's you that breaks the sky in two It's you that made my dreams come true For you the sun would forget to shine That day won't break It's you that makes my heart skip a beat It's you that makes my life complete For you the sun would forget to shine That day won't break Soft as the sun pours in your window We shine to the light within and life begins
9.
Xtasy 03:29
A universe is in my head A void that echoes round and round and round alive and dead Winds are whispering the words And the dreaming dies like birds In neurons catching flame Serotonin floods my brain When I sold my soul to ecstasy there is no ecstasy My life of pleasure killed the pain When I sold my soul to ecstasy there is no ecstasy Now I can’t make it through the day The sun may rise but I can’t open up my eyes Spinning down through endless space Shadows treasure all the pain inside. Dripping down my spine I think I’ll blow my mind Serotonin drowns my brain When I sold my soul to ecstasy there is no ecstasy My rite of rapture drives me sane When I sold my soul to ecstasy there is no ecstasy Without you, so I blew my brain Serotonin is my name When I sold my soul to ecstasy I love you ecstasy

Strangers 03:51
There's the sound of a voice in the back of your head Reminding you what to believe in When the pressure of faith is an opinion of taste There's always someone watching you Ah ha The strangers coming to push you over Drag you down or pull you under The strangers coming to rearrange you now The strangers coming to push you over Drag you down or pull you under The strangers coming to rearrange you now. You're feeling your thoughts as they're turning to stone TO the camera eyes that surround you Cos everything breaks at the start of the day There's always someone watching you Ah ha The strangers coming to push you over Drag you down or pull you under The strangers coming to rearrange you now You're so strange, but you're no stranger to love

On Fire 05:23

You're my everything, you're my angel You're the vision that I take with me every step. I've been searching for your vibration This world is not so big if you make a map. If I lose you, I will find you I live inside your dreams and I promise that i will keep you, I will treasure you And the devils in my head I will combat We'll find our way home Urban migration, we are following There's a place that we will always be searching If I lose you, I will find you I live inside your dreams and I promise you We'll find our way home Keep on searching

about

Julian Shah-Tayler is not just a man who wears many hats, he owns the hat warehouse. For starters, he writes, sings, performs, and produces the songs in his current band “The Singularity”. Along with all the many accomplishments he’s had over the years and all the people he’s collaborated with in the music and film industry, he makes a jack of all trades look as useful as a jack in a box. So much so that when Richard Ashcroft walks down the street in the “Bittersweet Symphony” video, there should be a scene where Richard and Julian highfive each other just as he sings “I’m a million different people from one day to the next..” because they understand each other in that moment. The only difference being that while Richard is only describing how he feels, Julian is too busy actually BEING a million different people from day to day.
Currently Julian Shah-Tayler is working on a new album with The Singularity since he says he has a great deal of songs backed up and ready to go. Most recently, his music can be found in the new movie “Plush” which stars Emily Browning ( Sucker Punch ) who plays a rock star who battles the pamperings and pitfalls of rock n roll fame in this new Drama/Thriller written and directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight). The film was released Friday Sept.13 and is currently playing at the AMC Burbank Town Center 8. The film also stars Cam Gigandet (Never Back Down) and Xavier Samuel (Adore).
I got to chat with Julian recently on how this project came about, other current projects, muses, and see if he’d take us down memory lane into the demons and mayhems of the P.M.’s and A.M.’s from the Britpop era.

1. How did you get involved with the movie “Plush” ?

My lovely friend Nick Launay, (Nick Cave/Arcade Fire/Yeah Yeah Yeahs) asked me if I wanted to submit some songs and produce the demos for the movie, so I did. I submitted 7 songs and 2 were accepted, and I cowrote one other. He had been asked because he is awesome, so it was providence and his generosity.

2. How did the Britpop era effect the music you were making and your lifestyle at the time?

I was party to that whole thing, and just too late to be a part of it with my band. It was a press encouraged event, but it really existed. A palpable coalition of bands who were amazing, helping each other do it right! I was so influenced by it. I wanted to be in Suede so badly. I was never in the band, but a friend of mine was and we used to rehearse in the room next door constantly. We packed out a Camden ballroom with my band that had recently been played by Blur, which was a real buzz….. We felt like it wasn’t long now…….

3. what made you decide to move out to Los Angeles to pursue music? What differences do you find in the music scene and lifestyle compared to London?

The movie industry. London has been a little lacking in great music recently. The best bands are still fabulous, but there is too much of a grimy drug scene, and I did that already. I am very lucky to have been able to come here to join the throng of people who put music into TV and film. That was the plan and with the grace of Los Angeles, it is happening! London is very small compared with LA, as everything is easy to get to, whereas here you have to drive everywhere. that means it’s difficult to meet like minded people outside of specific contexts. If you don’t go to clubs or bars here, you never see anyone, whereas in London you can’t avoid them!

4. Where do you get your inspiration from when writing new music?

Everywhere. I write everyday, so have a catalogue of around 400 songs. Recently, I have been deriving inspiration from literature and philosophical concepts. Always did, but it’s more prevalent in my work now.

5. Tell us about what other projects you are currently working on?

I started a charity called “Art Angeles” to help kids in Watts experience the fun of joining in and jamming with us in the inner city. I am very blessed to be allowed to do what I love in my life, so I want to share my joie de vivre with people who would not otherwise see that possibility in their life.
